Summer Paintings

Postcard from Pandora (2010)
30x40" Acrylic

This painting was done for a friend who is moving from California to Germany. In an effort to merge the organic with the vibrant, this fluorescent floral arrangement was meant to remind her of the livelihood of CA during her time abroad.
It was a step away from working with a subject, or even a concrete idea, but it proved to be a lesson in color theory and composition all the same.

It also provided the perfect inspiration for the new season of paintings. Summer.

Long Pose

Last week we dropped in on another live drawing class. This was a two hour pose and it became an opportunity to work on soft lighting and heavy volume. Everyone took a different approach with a different medium for this model - charcoals, painting, tablets. Spring Paintings

Spring (2010)

With a new season fast approaching ...in a town that doesn't have seasons :), this painting is the first of many new Spring paintings. I'll have to reshoot this since the lighting was too hot on the flowers and it's a longer painting that needs to be shot with a tripod, but in the interest of sharing new works....18x36" Acrylic on canvas.

Tents

The Tent Series

Blueberry Lake (2009)

This was a piece I did, much like my Baja tribute, after camping with the Lains in Alaska.
"Chugach and Wrangell-Saint Elias ranges converge in what is referred to as the "mountain kingdom of North America." This spectacular wilderness includes the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers, and the greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet." 20x20" Acrylic

Here's a link to the video from that week :)

Jackson, Mongolia - Typographic Portrait attempt

Dabbling in photoshop tutorials again - hoping to refine what skill was once already there, and take advantage of all the latest in new shortcuts and software. When I eventually redo this one, I think I'll take more time to separate out key words, and create more depth by layering text- a head shot with varying contrast may help mold the words as well.
