Tents

The Tent Series

Blueberry Lake (2009)

This was a piece I did, much like my Baja tribute, after camping with the Lains in Alaska.
"Chugach and Wrangell-Saint Elias ranges converge in what is referred to as the "mountain kingdom of North America." This spectacular wilderness includes the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers, and the greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet." 20x20" Acrylic

Here's a link to the video from that week :)

Jackson, Mongolia - Typographic Portrait attempt

Dabbling in photoshop tutorials again - hoping to refine what skill was once already there, and take advantage of all the latest in new shortcuts and software. When I eventually redo this one, I think I'll take more time to separate out key words, and create more depth by layering text- a head shot with varying contrast may help mold the words as well.

Cold Weather Paintings

First Tracks (2009)
It's hardly cold here, but in the spirit of the new season, the latest focus has been towards more robust landscapes. This painting was done as an engagement/housewarming for my longest and dearest friends Nick and Erin who are getting married next July in Utah. 20x20" Acrylic

Fashion Armageddon (2009)
This is as done as it ever will be . It started as a large, painted sketch that was added to a little at a time, depending on the leftover paint from another painting I was working on simultaneously. Only now seeing it on a monitor, I can really pick out it's flaws, but working that big and that loose without using a reference, model or picture was definitely a liberating experience. 24x48" Acrylic

40 min pose (November 2009)

Jackson and I found a live-model drawing class we could drop in on at one of the local schools. It's been a long time since I've had the opportunity to have someone sit for me, or since I've done a live-model drawing class. Either way, it was an amazing chance to tap into the community art scene and to rediscover the act of drawing people. -This class in particular, had an emphasis on costumes. Charcoal on newsprint (aka, good luck smudging this, it might has well have been in Sharpie).

Practice Practice Practice

I have just reintroduced myself to charcoal and forgot how fun it is. It's awesome (and humbling) to break out of graphic-mode long enough to smuddddge my way through shapes and volumes. I could stand to be a little more fluid, use the *whole* grey scale and explore composition... that being said, more to come.

Here's the Bear Grylls study next to the MATADORA...all dressed up in her pink grip tape.

When my "other" work goes well...

These are a few of the gems from this year's invitations, logos, flyers, concepts...& it's refreshing to look back and see the diversity of events: lacrosse camps, weddings, vacations, charities... Keep the need for printed pieces coming!
